Welcome to The Honest Groomer

Hi! I’m Lauren, aka. The Honest Groomer.

I’ve loved animals as long as I can remember. I grew up in a dog-loving family. Our poodle, Shadow, inspired my mom to become a groomer. My love for animals inspired me to move to the east coast at 18 years old to study Marine Biology. While I was there, I had incredible opportunities that fuelled my passion. I went to Africa to study (and swim with) great white sharks. I spent an entire summer in Nova Scotia tracking and studying bats.

As exciting and enriching as these experiences were, it was a part-time job that became my biggest source of inspiration. During my studies, I had the opportunity to work with a Master Groomer in Halifax. I applied for the job with my family experience and love for animals behind me. I landed the job and my life has been forever changed.

At 21, I got my first standard poodle, Echo. Then I got another standard poodle, Vienna less than a year later. With my grooming skills improving by the day, I decided to show her in conformation and got her CKC Championship at only 10 months old. I groomed and handled her myself. This was the beginning of what would become a full blown passion.

I now run Groom to Bloom, a dog-first grooming studio in Hartington, Ontario. I also participate in dog shows and competitions with my now four standard poodles, Vienna, Echo, Vienna’s daughter Vida and the latest addition, Norman. I also breed the odd litter of health tested and top winning standard poodles, about 1-2 a year is enough to keep me busy.

The more I learn, the more inspired I feel to share what I’m learning with other dog owners. Dogs bring out the best in people, so it only seems fair we do the same for them. That’s why I’m starting this blog.

My goal is to share tips and advice I’ve learned along the way, so that we can help dogs be as happy, healthy, and full of life as they deserve to be.

I’ll also be posting about events, training seminars, and industry news.
